It's that time again....as with last year, please save the Harry Potter debate for somewhere else. This is all about community and having fun
Time to get planning on our Burrow Bash. I made the Save the Date postcards today!
Last year we served:
- Pumpkin juice (apple juice with pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice....won't do this again. Tasted fine/looked like swampwater)
- Fever fudge (white chocolate fudge w/ blue food coloring...note to self, a half recipe is enough!)
- Nosebleed Nouget (tiger butter...big hit)
- Pumpkin pasties....few people ate these, but they were authentic, one of my oldest dd's friends made them and dd loved them(VERY time consuming, I imagine)
- Bertie Bots (almost) every flavor beans (jelly bellies, but not the real 'HP' bertie bots beans that do have the nasty flavors)
- Cockroach Clusters (butterscotch haystacks, kids asked to do these again)
- Chocolate Frogs (I found a GREAT mold in the soapmaking isle that looks JUST like the ones from the movie, and bought candy foils to wrap them, but the kids didn't like them much, so I may not make more than a couple this year, for show)
- Canary Creams (cream puffs, not homemade, just bought at Walmart with a good coupon )
- Acid Pops (just plain sour lollipops we wrapped in the candy foil)
- Pretzel Wands (chocolate dipped pretzel sticks made by dd's same friend)
- Droobles (gum balls...the real droobles is too weird..have you ever tried it?)
- Crisps (potato chips)
- Bangers (ok, so it was lil' smokies and it was a bit of a stretch, but they were a hit)
- Garden Gnome veggies with dip
- Cheese tray with crackers and I have some of those little autumn cookie cutters that make cheese shapes, but I'd like a theme appropriate name for it http://tinyurl.com/autumncookie but I never came up with one.
- I put out tortillia chips, salsa and queso...not very 'on theme' but always a party favorite.
Drinks:
- Butterbeer (Cream soda with butterscotch syrup added. This year we're buying rootbeer bottles from a homebrew shop and putting labels on them from http://www.wizard-store.com/files/butterbeerlabels.jpg here)
- Elixer of Life (Water in a clear pitcher with a large ruby 'sorcerer's stone' I found at the craft store in the bottom.)
- We had a TON of soda last year that no one drank, so I won't go there this year.
- This year, I'm going to have regular party punch with dry ice, in a cauldron. Dh wants something in a cauldron, and I think that this fits the bill

Again, like last year, I wish I had a Tea Cart. My mom had one when I was little...sigh. My ds really wants a "trolly" like on the Hogwarts Express, to put all the candy on. If I can figure out how to rig one, I will...it might have to wait for another year, though.
We have plenty of cobwebs that I got last year after Halloween for 50cents per bag
I have decor for the front lawn, and windows, and I have twinkle lights for the back porch (if dh decides to put up the hooks for it this year, which he has said that he will do!)
Last year I planned to put eyes on potatoes to be garden gnomes, but ended up making eyes out of model magic and putting them on warty gourds instead. They were killer cute, and I'll do it again this year. I think that I'll use Sculpy clay and bake them though, so that I can use them year after year....now that it looks like we'll actually do this every year
I also had the idea to use those frosted Christmas balls/ornaments to make a "Hall of Prophesy" decoration, so we'll see how that turns out.
I made a display in a niche of my house last year that included a stack of books. This year I plan to make a few HP themed book covers for that display, potentially including
Most Potente Potions,
The Monster Book of Monsters, Hogwarts a History (we have the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and I think we have Quidditch Through the Ages, so we're good on those) This should make a tall enough stack for the display.
